Buy it wherever has a good price, or get a refurb from canon! Also check out either a 50 mm 1.8 @ 100USD, or a 35 mm 2.0 @ ~ 300USD. Awesome lenses to start with. The 35 feels more "natural" as it matches the focal of your eye, vs the 50 is very fast, amazing quality, and a tad more zoom. (both are amazing quality + speed). Great lenses to start with!

I sold mine and now i kind of miss it... I wasn't using it much and needed a set of pocket wizards. Time for an 85 i guess. :( The lens is a plastic BEAST! lol

I use it now for almost everything ... except self-shots because my arm is to short for that :D
But I must that I just own the nifty fifty and the 18-55mm kit jawn.

Way back when i bought mine, i never touched my kit again after my 50. The quality was just a huugeeeeeee difference, that and i was hooked on bokeh for a long time. :)
The only reason i stopped using it so much was my 24-70 became my popular "common" lense to use for a lot of my work as i was usually shooting beyond F4, and i didn't need perfect CA results etc.

I use a 7D. And it depends on your body for how its going to look and the user. the 50mm on a crop will look identical to the 85 on a full frame. I will just buy the 1.8 my self. Unless i use a lens a lot im not willing to break 1,000 USD on it. My 24-70 i use daily so it was worth the money but on a stuck prime its a wholleeee nother story. And sure the quality is better but its not INSANELY better.

I got just a 1000D and I'm starting after 2 years now learn how to use it.
I can understand that you won't spend more than a kilo bucks for a lens that you don't use that much.
I thought about a Samyang 85 1.4, pretty decent lens for a low price :) But, absolutely no communication with the body and no AF etc.
The 50mm f1.8 is an amazing lens for little cost, cant fault it

I paid a lot of money for the AF abilities of the 7D. Manual focus is just so ancient and worthless to me. I don't have the time in shoots to focus manually. So ide rather just save, or get the lower quality glass haha. Personal preference though! Just succkkksss shootinv moving objects with a manual focus!
