How would one go about achieving soft tones in a picture? Kind of like this.

you can probably get pretty close to your original pic with a sepia filter and just knock down some opacity on it.
ya i love evoked's shots haha. i see them on like all the forums. where would i find a sepia filter? is that found in ps?
does anyone know of a free online picture editor to use??
i can show you what im talking about..its really easy if you reduce saturation and some contrasts
id suggest turning down the saturation then go to image adjustments to tweak the shadows/highlights
then blur the back ground if necessary? should be about the same--if i remember any photoshop of the top of my head...you might tweak some of the hues to get the desired look..i edited these that way besides the whole blurring part

i dont use anything too complicated in photoshop to process pics..just mostly some saturation, (custom)color adjustment, curves, shadows/highlights, or levels...usually not all of these but some combination of one or a few
im not amazing/perfect with it but i have fun with editing pictures sometimes =]
ill see if i can find some more examples ina few..
^i over processed that one just for a fun look..heres another i found to show how slight adjustments make a huge difference

I use lightroom to edit my photos, i would asked quan (Evoked) he processes on lightroom as well
860.
OP are you looking for soft colors like this?
Or are you looking for a haze like this?
Toss us a few more examples so we can see what kind of look you are going for please.![]()
does is makes sense if you have like both? haze and soft tone?
its seems both pics that benzo posted has both

but thats obviously fog..the lights guna reflect off the moisture different than it would just whiting out like the parking garage picture. im assuming the op is meaning he likes how the picture has a kind of nostalgic look to it--the color balance is really fun to mess with in pics
To get the coloring like that use a split one. Usually you will pull opposite colors to add contrast such as a skin tone color, and a bluish greenish tone like my photo above.
uhm soft colors. like the tones? i dunno my terms. but for example, in this video around the 7 second mark, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CovPW...eature=related
its really like soft and feels nostalgic?
do you mind screenshotting me an example of what you mean by raising the mid and half way down to shadow in curves? im still a noob at photography. thanks alot guys
