get something like THIS, you'll want the better aperture control, depth of field, crisper/faster focus and better colors. looks to be cheap too. orrrr get a 50mm, for the same reasons. however on a crop body it would be kinda "zoomed" in all the time.

Thats not cheap... that cost $1,400. lol. Get a 50mm 1.8 (nifty 50). Or if you want a little more natural looking a 35m F2 if you can find a good deal (These feel over priced but its my fav 'walk about' lens).

Daaaaamn--I got some catching up to do. I barely just purchased my first Digital SLR. Should be here in about a week or two. It's a Canon 350D (NOVICE, I am). Thinking about picking up a D7000 after my two week vacation.

I just ordered a canon 50mm 1.8 off ebay for less than a $100. One of those power sellers or whatever. Had a $10 coupon so why not! w00t

Is the 1.4 significantly better or just a bit of a difference?

uh honestly i would have never upgraded if my wife didnt want ti so bad. i actually love the 1.8 because it was cheap therefore i didnt worry about it as much. but there is a significant difference imo. i didnt think there would be but at 1.4 its simply amazing. i mean i dont shoot that open. but its alot clearer and pictures come out cleaner. that just what i noticed.
