Haha this is actually a great question, I had to ask my wife. Then she went on to make fun of a particular band that sung about it lol

    A little info on it

Straight edge refers to a subculture of hardcore punk which was a direct reaction to the sexual revolution, hedonism, and excess associated with punk rock.[1][2] In its simplest form, straight edge is a philosophy of staying clean and sober: meaning refraining from using alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs. For some, this extends to not engaging in promiscuous sex, following a vegetarian or vegan diet, not using caffeine or prescription drugs.[1] The term was coined by the 1980s hardcore punk band Minor Threat in their song "Straight Edge."[3]

exactly. it showed the violent/brotherhood/no bs side of the group pretty well i think even tho that show does make everything cheesy and exaggerated.

Yeah I remember that gangland episode. I don't think there are many true straight edge people left. There's plenty that don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, but not indulging in those activities alone don't make you straight edge.

When I was in 9th grade I remember seeing this guy wear a "Boston Straight Edge" sweater. Most "edged" person I ever knew. haha

The FSU gangland made me laugh so hard. I only have a few edge friends left out of a large group that used to claim it a few years back. It's mostly a trend now that kids follow for a few years and then forget about it. I still have some friends that have been true to the lifestyle for years and will most likely continue to. I'm not edge btw, but respect those who are.

It was probably a "HAVE HEART" sweater.

I've never claimed straight edge, and never really cared too much either way about it... I drink on occasion, but never really to get drunk, mostly just to have a drink with some friends. I don't do any drugs and don't smoke or use tobacco products.

Every person I went to school with except for one, broke edge a year or two out of high-school. One of those guys is still edge(unless you count promiscuous sex). Doesn't smoke, doesn't drink, no drugs at all. The best part is that quite a few of them got edge tattoos.

One of the things that DOES piss me off, kids wearing Have Heart: Boston Straight Edge sweatshirts while drinking/doing drugs. If you're gonna do that shit, don't claim you are what you aren't.

As for FSU and the stupid hardcore scene gangs. Gangs are for pussies. I don't care what "gang" it is... I grew up in heavy gang neighborhoods, and that shit is lame no matter how to explain it.

I also had a ton of friends growing up that were Edge. Wasnt ever really my deal. Listened to all the bands but was never edge. But I have plenty of Have Heart/xAFBx/other edge bands shirts that I wear all the time and I smoke. Just cause I like the band doesnt mean I support their cause...

So basically lame dudes/gals who couldn't get none and or are scared to drink and what not decided to band together. Like in that movie Revenge of the Nerds. hahahaha... Straight Edge seems to be a midwest sort of thing. I've never heard of straight edge till I joined the military. Reppin' EAST!

I'd clam it if I was older I wouldn't really consider myself edge since I'm not 21 yet. I have been clean all 4 years of high school might not seem like much, but where I'm front we pretty much have access to everything regardless of age.

Im not Straight Edge, but if that is your choice I have no problems with it. The only thing I dont like about it is when someone who is Straight Edge wants to press there views on you. If you want to be %100 sober more power to you, but dont slap a beer out of my hand in public.
